The Bass are in – but not for us!
Well Stephen deserted me for nearly a month travelling across the Atlantic! So I was shore based until yesterday when Nigel (I buy my Jaguars from him) said he would like to go fishing and the weather was gorgeous, no wind and hot sunshine. Since Steve does most of the heavy work when he moors up at the end of the session, I said we could only do a short trip.
The lads at Noss Marina said the Bass were in so armed with this information, and in lovely conditions, we motored out of the river Dart and headed for our local inshore Bass mark. Most of the boats were commercial and using live sand eel. There were a few Bass coming up but not in any great numbers, and none that I could see caught by lures. Needless to say you can guess we were not successful!
However it was a lovely day and the autumn light showed off the Devon cliffs in all their glory.
Steve will be back in action from next week so normal service will resume over the coming months.
If anyone knows of a live eel supplier close to Brixham or Ivybridge (closer than Teignmouth that is) please let us know. the Storm lures we use are excellent if the Bass are taking lure, but when they are not very active then its only the live baits that secure the fish.
