The day dawned grey, and Stephen arrived at Brixham hot footed from packing my present! We set off down the river in very overcast conditions so the navigation light were switched on. Which meant that Mike needed to replace the port side light and Stephen had a spare (good first mate!).

Sunshine,such a rare event in winter and a slight breeze and favourable forecast all set the mood for my trip across the South Hams to Brixham to meet up with Mike. It was crisp and cold as we headed down to Noss Marina. High tide was at 0930 and being about half an hour after, the river was calm and still and there was little other activity on the river.

Dartmouth can be interesting even in the depth of winter. Having slipped our moorings and heading down the dart we were in the flight path of a Naval helicopter landing at the Naval College. It is surprising the number of aircraft that can be seen going to and fro.
